How to Update the Video Hardware Graphics Card in a ThinkPad T43

Updating your graphics card software is an important part of maintaining your computer. Updates will correct software bugs that were discovered subsequent to the release of the last version of drivers. They also ensure that your video card is compatible with new Windows XP updates released by Microsoft. The ThinkPad T43 runs Windows XP, and the drivers can be updated by using the Device Manager utility.

Instructions

1. Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

2. Click on "Performance and maintenance" in the control panel and then click "System."

3. Click on the "Hardware" tab at the top of the "System" window and then click "Device Manager."

4. Scroll down to and double click on "Display Adapters."

5. Right-click on your video card and click "Update driver software." This will check to see if you have the most up to date drivers installed. If there are no new drivers you can close the "Device Manager" window. If new drivers are found, follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.

Tips & Warnings

• It is not possible to add a new video card to the ThinkPad T43 because of the fact that it ships with onboard video, meaning that the video card is on the motherboard.
