How to Open an IBM Thinkpad R51 Laptop

The IBM Thinkpad R51 Laptop is held securly closed by a spring-loaded latch located at the front of the computer.

The IBM Thinkpad R51 is equipped with a latch to keep the lid securely closed during transportation and while the computer is being stored.

Instructions

1. Place the laptop on a flat surface, with the front latch facing toward you.

2. Slide the latch on the front to the side and hold it there. The latch is spring loaded and will return to the locked position if it is not held.

3. Lift the lid while holding the latch in the unlocked position.

4. Gently release the latch and guide it back to the locked position. Do not allow it to freely spring back to the locked position because this could damage the latch or the computer over time.
