How to Shrink a Picture With Paint Shop Pro

Shrink images to fit them on a Web page or into a predefined slot in a document. Paint Shop Pro is one of the most popular Web graphics programs.

• Paint Shop Pro

1. Start Paint Shop Pro. From the File menu, select Open and locate the picture you want to shrink.
2. Click Open or double-click the file to open it.
3. From the Image menu, select Resize. A dialog box opens.
4. To reduce by pixels, click the radio button and enter the pixel height and width.
5. To reduce by percentage, click the Percentage of Original radio button. Type the percentage value you want to decrease the picture by.
6. To reduce the actual size in inches or centimeters, select the Actual/Print Size radio button. Select inches or centimeters from the drop-down menu and type the size in the boxes to the right.
7. If the picture doesn't look as you anticipated, open the File menu and choose Undo to return the image to its original size.
8. Save your photo when finished by clicking File and selecting Save or Save As.

Tips & Warnings

• As you make changes, the information in the dialog box will change to reflect height, number of pixels, and other image property information.
• When changing numbers for one direction (width or height), the corresponding direction changes if the Maintain Aspect Ratio box is checked.
• The Maintain Aspect Ratio box is checked and has a number by default. This allows the image to be resized without being flattened, misshapen or distorted.
• Save your reduced picture under a different name, such as smallerimage.jpg, to avoid losing the original.
• Obtain permission before using any unlicensed or copyrighted clip art.
• Do not use images from another Web page without permission from the owner of the site.
