How to Flash a Gt5056 BIOS

How to Flash a Gt5056 BIOS thumbnail
Updating a Gateway computer's BIOS resolves hardware problems.

Your Gateway Gt5056 desktop computer utilizes the BIOS to run through a series of system checks each time the computer is powered on. The original BIOS that came with the computer isn't always capable of handling every new hardware device, so if you install new components it may also be necessary to update the BIOS. In order to flash the current BIOS to the latest version, you only need to run an update file provided by Gateway.

    • 5

Select "Display Results." Check through the list of available Gateway BIOS files and click the download link for the most recent version.

    • 6

Double-click the BIOS update file when it finishes downloading. Follow the onscreen installation prompts and then restart the Gt5056 computer.

    • 7

Press "F2" repeatedly until the Gt5056's BIOS menu pops up on the screen. Press "F7" to load the new BIOS file's default values. Press "F10" to save the new BIOS values and restart the Gateway computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your Gateway Gt5056 will behave erratically or even fail to boot up at all if you install the wrong BIOS version. Prior to installing the new BIOS you may want to save backup copies of any important data to an external memory device in case something goes wrong.
