Ford trucks come equipped with an array of factory-installed stereos. Whether your Ford has a standard AM/FM radio or a touchscreen navigation system, you may find it necessary to replace your stereo. A new stereo will afford you the chance to shop the stereo market and choose a system that best meets your needs. Owners who wish to upgrade their stock stereo will find a wide range of aftermarket radios that are both compatible with your vehicle and capable of handling all your car audio needs.

Instructions

    • 1

      Disconnect the negative battery cable from the Ford truck's battery. Loosen the cable's clamp with the wrench and move the cable from the negative terminal.

      Gather the stereo wiring left idle after the removal of the factory stereo. The stereo wiring is bound together by white plastic wire binders. The antenna cable is a single black cable on the right side of the stereo dock.

      Plug the stereo wiring into a wiring harness adapter. The adapter will be clearly marked to illustrate where the appropriate connections are to be made.

      Slide the faceplate adapter from the Ford installation kit into the stereo mounting dock. Push the faceplate adapter into the opening until it snaps into place. Reach into the adapter to pull forth the leads of the wiring harness adapter.

      Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the corresponding outlets on the back of the new stereo. Plug the antenna cable into the outlet on the rear panel of the stereo labeled "FM antenna."

      Slide the aftermarket stereo into the opening in the stereo dock provided by the faceplate adapter. The radio will slide into the dock until it snaps into place and the face of the radio is level with the trim of the faceplate adapter.

      Place the center dash panel over the stereo and climate control knobs. Press the panel into place to reconnect the five clips on the backside of the panel with the retaining holes on the dashboard of the Ford truck. Return to the battery.

      Place the negative battery cable clamp back around the negative battery terminal lead. Tighten the clamp with the wrench and close the Ford truck's hood.
