How to Make an XP Active Desktop Web Page
In Windows XP, you can use the Active Desktop setting to change the way your computer desktop behaves. With Active Desktop, your Windows desktop acts like a Web page. You can customize an Active Desktop by adding parts of your favorite sites to your desktop. These items will automatically update as well. There are three ways to enable an Active Desktop in XP.

Make an XP Active Desktop From the Desktop

Right-click any unused area of the desktop.

Point to "Active Desktop."

Select "View as a Web Page." A check mark appears next to this option to show that is has been activated.
Make an XP Active Desktop From the Control Panel

Click the "Start" button. Point to "Settings" and select "Control Panel," or click on "Control Panel" in the right side of the "Start Menu."

Double-click "Display."

Go to the "Web" tab of the "Display Properties" dialog box.

Select the "View My Active Desktop as a Web Page" check box. Click "OK."

Double-click "My Computer" on the desktop.

Go to the "View" menu and select "Folder Options."

Go to the "General" tab of the "Folder Options" dialog box.

Select "Web Style" to enable the Active Desktop. Click "OK."
