How to Wear Your Hair Down for Wedding Styles

How to Wear Your Hair Down for Wedding Styles thumbnail
Nearly any hairdo would compliment a dress like this.

Brides have a number of things to worry about before their big day and their hairstyle shouldn't be one of them. While some brides prefer an up-do, others like the way their hair looks when hanging down. The movement of your hair as it cascades behind you is reminiscent of your veil and doesn't require a lot of work or pins, like traditional up-dos. Wearing your hair down also gives you more options in terms of decorations, including a tiara or fresh flowers. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pick between a half up-do style and wearing your hair completely down. The half up-do is similar to a traditional up-do, in that the top of your hair is pulled up and back, with just a few strands left loose. The hair towards the back of your head hangs loose.

Wash your hair with shampoo and then apply a leave-in conditioner. The leave-in conditioner gives your hair more body and texture. If you have curly hair or it's susceptible to changes in the climate, then use a hair serum instead of the leave-in conditioner.

    • 3

Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb, making sure that the serum or conditioner reaches all areas of the hair, from the roots to the ends. Use the comb to part your hair down the center or on the side. Most wedding hairdos use a center part, but if you do a side part, make the part towards the outside end of your eyebrow. Let your hair air dry or use a blow dryer.

Add a decorative element to your hair, such as a tiara or crown of flowers. Even a single fresh flower behind your ear looks nice for more casual weddings. If you use multiple decorations, use bobby pins to hold those in place and also use the pins if you're using a tiara, to prevent it from falling off.

    • 5

Lightly dust your hair with a non-sticky hair spray, coating all sides. You want your hair to stay in place throughout the ceremony, without feeling sticky or dry. Check for any stray hairs and use a bobby pin to hold back any hairs you want tucked back into the hairstyle.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you decide on the half up-do, pull the hair back after washing and using the conditioner, but before you add any decorations. Then follow the same steps.
