A power supply unit

The power supply is what allows every other part of your computer to run. When the power supply fails, there is generally no warning. Either the computer will fail to turn on at all or it will suddenly stop working. There is no way to fix a power supply. It has to be replaced. To determine what power supply you need to purchase for your eMachines PC, you will need to look at the power supply unit itself. Consider replacing the power supply unit with one of greater wattage if you are adding components to your computer. This will prevent the burning out of an overtaxed power supply unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the computer and disconnect all cords and cables. Loosen the thumbscrews on the back of your computer and remove the side panel. Set it aside.

    • 2

Read the label that lists the wattage of the power supply unit, which is the big box inside the top of the computer tower where the power cord is connected.

    • 3

Close the computer tower. Replace the side panel and tighten the thumbscrews.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never work inside the computer without disconnecting the power cable.
