How to String the Shooting Strings of a Lacrosse Stick
Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in America. According to U.S. Lacrosse, more than 560,000 people played on organized lacrosse teams in 2009. One of the most important pieces of equipment required to play lacrosse is the lacrosse stick. The stick has a head that is strung to form a pocket. The way the head is strung can influence the amount of control a player has over the ball, as well as shooting speed and direction. The shooting strings are thicker strings that typically are woven across the top of the lacrosse head.

Stringing The Shooting Strings
-
1
Choose which type of string you will use for your shooting strings. You can use either "fat" hockey laces or regular round nylon laces. Some people opt to cut off the ends of their hockey laces and thread a nylon lace through them to give the shooting string extra thickness.
-
2
Lay your lacrosse head down on a flat surface so that the "scoop" is facing down. Place the first lace horizontally across the back of the basket, one to two inches from the top of the head.

3
Leave 2-3 inches of extra lace on the left-hand side. Wrap the other end of the string around the sidewall string on the right. Make a loop around and pull to a moderate tightness.
-
4
Working from right to left, alternately weave the shooting string through the nylon weave and wrap the string around the shooting string itself, creating a coiled effect. When you reach the left-hand side, tie a secure knot. You can tie both ends to the plastic or simply tie them securely together.
-
5
Repeating the steps above, weave on two more shooting strings in your desired location. The strings should get gradually looser, so that the pocket will be deep enough to let you easily control the ball.
