How to Fix a Computer Disc Hardware Configuration Problem

Computer hard drives must be properly configured during the installation procedure for them to work without errors. This includes installing the drives to the appropriate channel within the computer, along with ensuring that the Master/Slave jumpers on the drives are properly set. You can typically remedy a configuration problem within 20 to 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Phillips-head screwdriver

Instructions

1. Shut down the computer and unplug it.

2. Remove the case screws and slide off the side panel.

3. Check to ensure that the data cable (IDE cable) from the back of the drives is securely attached to the motherboard and the drive.

4. Check the jumpers on the back of the drives. Ensure that the primary drive is set to "Master" and the secondary drive(s) is set to "Slave."
