Instructions

    • 1

Cut a board to the desired length of your sword. Use a power saw, such as a jig saw, if available. Otherwise use a hand saw, such as a hand miter saw. Starting with a two by four will give you a less detailed training sword. For more detail, use a one inch by four inch board.

    • 2

Draw an outline of the shape of the sword you want to make. Use a pencil.

    • 3

Use the power saw, or hand saw, to cut away the excess wood from your sword drawing. Get as close as you can to the drawing, but not necessarily all the way to the drawing. This will leave you with some room for mistakes.

    • 4

Use a rough piece of sandpaper, or a hand plane, to smooth out the rough edges of your sword. Rough sandpaper will also help round any pieces, such as the handle, to your liking.

    • 5

Use light-grain sandpaper to smooth out the entire surface of the sword.

    • 6

Use wood stain, gloss, or paint to finish the sword to your liking.
