One of the keys to getting the most out your web surfing experience is the browser you are using. Your browser needs to be maintained, which includes updating it each time its creators have improved features or removed bugs. If you do not update your browser, you may not see content displayed correctly and may experience a lot of crashes. Leading browser makers have made the updating process quick and easy--it generally takes no more than about five minutes to complete.

      Close all applications and programs.

      Open a browser and go to either the Firefox or Internet Explorer download site (see Resources), depending on the browser you want to update.

      Click the download button or link on the site. On the Internet Explorer site, the download link is to the far right. On the Firefox site, the button is to the far right.

      Follow the instructions that may arise on the next page. Internet Explorer asks what country you are in and what operating system you are running. Begin your download.

      Choose "Open" in the dialog box that appears if you are on a Windows machine. Follow the installation prompts that appear. You will be asked to close your browser at this point. If you are on a Mac, you will be asked to move the download file to your applications folder.

      Finish the process by restarting your computer. Your browser is now updated.
