How to Enable Java in Microsoft Internet Explorer
Created by Sun Microsystems, the Java programming language allows developers to create applications capable of running on nearly any operating system. As long as the company's Java Runtime Environment is installed on the computer, Java programs can be run without issue. The JRE installation process also adds a plug-in to widely used Web browsers, including Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Enable this plug-in for your browser with just a few clicks.

For Internet Explorer 7 and 8

Open an Internet Explorer browser window.

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar and select "Internet Options."

Select the "Programs" tab and click the "Manage add-ons" button.

Single-click the Java plug-in item and select "Enable." Repeat the process for each Java plug-in listed.

Click "OK" in Internet Explorer 7 or "Close" in Internet Explorer 8 to close the "Manage add-ons" dialog box.

Click "OK" to close the "Internet Options" dialog box, and then close all open browser windows. The Java plug-in will function properly the next time you start Internet Explorer.
For Internet Explorer 5 and 6

Open an Internet Explorer browser window.

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar and select "Internet Options."

Select the "Security" tab and click the "Custom Level" button.

Scroll down to the section labeled "Java VM/Java permissions" and select the "Low," "Medium" or "High" safety option.

Click "OK" twice to close the open dialog boxes, and then close all open browser windows. The Java plug-in will function properly the next time you start Internet Explorer.
