How to Import WMA Format Music Onto an iPod thumbnail
To place WMA files on your iPod, you need to convert them in iTunes.

The iPod is one of the most popular MP3 players available. It is very user-friendly and works with Apple's iTunes media organizer to easily take your music library with you. The iPod, however, only allows certain files types to be transferred to the player. If you have WMA (Windows Media Audio) files you wish to add to the player, you will need to convert them to an acceptable format. Luckily, you can make this conversion in iTunes without downloading extra software.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your iTunes software. If you need to download it, visit Apple's iTunes page (see Resources section).

    • 2

Click on "File" at the top of the screen. Select "Add File to Library" to open an Explorer window.

    • 3

Browse through the files in your library to find the WMA file. Click on the file to select it. Click on the "Open" button to add it to your iTunes library.

    • 4

Click "Yes" when you receive the message asking if you would like to convert the file. iTunes will convert the file from WMA to AAC so it can be loaded to the iPod. When the file is finished converting, it will be added to the library.

    • 5

Connect the USB end of the iPod connector cord to a USB port on the computer. Plug the other end of the cord into the iPod. iTunes will recognize the iPod.

    • 6

Click on the "Devices" tab in iTunes. Click on the "Sync Music" option. Click "Apply" to begin adding the music to the iPod.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you would like to save space on your computer and you don't want the WMA files anymore, delete them. iTunes creates a copy of the files, which doubles the amount of files you have.
