How to Reset the Oil Light on a BMW 745i
The oil light on your BMW 745i warns you when you need to change the oil. The engine oil in your 745i lubricates critical engine components. If there is not enough oil in the engine, or if the engine oil level is too low, then you could cause premature engine wear and in extreme cases, engine failure. Once you've changed the oil, the oil light will stay on. Unlike many vehicles, cutting power to the battery will not reset the oil light on a BMW. You'll need to know the special procedure for resetting this service light.
Instructions

1
Open the fuse panel cover in the driver's side footwell by pulling down on the cover with your fingers.

2
Locate the pinned connector in the fuse panel. It will be a large, circular port.
-
-
3
Plug the OBD reset tool plug into the large round pinned open port. BMW uses a special tool, called an OBD reset tool, to reset its service indicators. These tools must be purchased from BMW.
-
4
Turn the ignition to the "on" position and don't crank the engine.
-
5
Wait for the reset tool to clear all engine codes. It will then reset your oil light on the dash.
