Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local feed store to purchase a bird trap. There are many varieties of bird traps, most being made of wire mesh. Consider how often you may use the trap, how many birds you hope to trap and the cost of the trap. Some traps are more portable and lightweight than others. That might also be a consideration.

    • 2

Observe the birds that you are attempting to trap, paying close attention to where they reside, which likely is the best place to set up your trap.

    • 3

Put your bait where you plan to place your trap. Dried bread or another bird treat will work. Place the bread in the area where your birds like to gather. Do this for several days to get the birds used to coming there for food. Spread it around the general area.

    • 4

Set up your bird trap in the area that you have been baiting. Tie back the doors of the trap so that they will not close. Place bait around the trap and leading into the trap. In the very center of the trap , make sure to place a pile of bait so that the bird or birds will be comfortable going into the trap. You will continue to do this for a few days.

    • 5

Untie the doors of the trap. Some traps have a mechanism that will close the doors when bait placed on an inside mechanism is touched. Others will have a door that the birds will push as they enter the trap, and will swing close once the bird is inside the trap. Place the bait around and in the trap again. Check on the trap every few hours.
