There are many reasons to change your cell phone carrier, such as getting a better rate at another provider or poor service with your current provider. If you are switching from Sprint to T-Mobile, you can also transfer your phone number if you want. Thanks to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), there are now certain restrictions on carriers that make it very easy for subscribers to change cell phone companies while keeping their phone number.
Wait for your Sprint contract to expire or you may be responsible for early termination fees. These fees can run hundreds of dollars, so be prepared to pay up if you are still under a contract.
Sign up for T-Mobile service. Provide your old cell-phone number as you are activating your new service. Make sure your Sprint service is still active when doing this. Do not cancel your Sprint service until after the transfer is fully complete.
Wait for your new service to be activated using your old phone number. According to FCC rules, T-Mobile and Sprint should complete this transfer within 24 hours.
