When the laptop boots up, it goes through a process called the BIOS. You can set a BIOS password so that anyone attempting to use your laptop must enter the password before the operating system loads. To set or change the password you must enter the laptop's BIOS menu.

    • 3

Tap the right arrow key to navigate over to the "Security" heading. Scroll down to the "Password on Boot" option and press the "F5" key to set the option to "Enabled."

    • 4

Press "Enter." Type in the current BIOS password and press "Enter." Type in the new BIOS password you want to use for the laptop and press "Enter" again.

    • 5

Press the laptop's "F10" key to save the new BIOS password and restart the Acer TravelMate's operating system.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you tap "Escape," you can exit the BIOS menu without saving the new BIOS password you chose.

  • If you type in the BIOS password incorrectly three times the laptop will lock permanently and you will have to contact Acer's support to have the system unlocked.
