How to Add a Credit Card in a Different Name to PayPal

You can use PayPal to send or request money. If you want to pay for something you purchased using PayPal, you can either add a bank account or link your credit card. If you want to add a credit card in a different name to PayPal, it is easy to do so, but the last name on the credit card must be the same as the last name as the account registrant. For example, you can add your spouse's credit card as long as you share the same last name.

  • Sign in to your PayPal account using your email address and password.

  • Click the "My Account" button located on the PayPal menu, then hover over the "Profile" button. Select "Add or Edit Credit Card" from the drop-down menu.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page that opens and click "Add Card."

  • Enter the first name on the credit card in the box next to "First Name," then click the arrow next to "Card Type" to select the type of credit card you want to add.

  • Type the credit card number in the box next to "Card Number," then select the expiration date.

  • Type the three-digit card verification number on the back of your card into the labeled box.

  • Check the box next to "Enter a new address as billing address," then enter the address information if the billing address for the card is not the same as the address listed on your account. If the address is the same, click "Use Default Address." Click "Add Card" to finish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to verify the credit card before trying to purchase something with it. PayPal will add a small charge to your credit card within three business days. Check the billing statement (you can do this online) and enter the amount PayPal charged you on your PayPal account to verify the card.
