How to Force an MSI Installation

MSI computer files are files that are associated with Windows Installer, the built-in installer utility used by the Windows operating system. A MSI file should begin to install the program that it is associated with immediately after being downloaded to your computer. If it doesn't, however, you can force it to execute and start installing that program. This can be done in only a few clicks of your computer's mouse.

  • Right click on the .MSI file that you're working with.

  • Click "Open With."

  • Select "Windows Installer" from the list of programs on your computer.

  • Click "OK." The MSI file will open the installation utility that is associated with it, and you can now continue on with the installation of your program as normal.
