Skimboarding is a fun and athletic summer activity that you can do at the beach. Unlike a surfboard, skimboards are much smaller and can be easier to navigate. If you want to maintain the beauty of your skimboard and keep it in top working condition, you need to wax it regularly. Waxing your skimboard does not take much time, but can improve your skimboarding performance.
Things You'll Need
- Bar of surf wax
- Clean rag
Clean your skimboard thoroughly using rubbing alcohol. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a clean, dry rag and wipe down the entire board.
Choose the correct bar of surf wax. If you are using your skimboard in a warm climate, you might want to choose a surf wax with has a high temperature rating. This type of wax is very hard and less sticky, so it to works better in higher temperature water. For best results, though, BeachTrading.com recommends using both high and low temperature surf wax.
Wax the skimboard with using a base coat of tropical, or high temperature wax, according to the instructions that came with the wax. Follow this with a thorough application of the cool temperature wax.
Tips & Warnings
- Avoid using car wax on your skimboard. Use a surf wax bar or other surf wax.
