How to Change the Tires on a 2002 C240 Mercedes-Benz
Regular care and maintenance will prolong the life of your 2002 C240 Mercedes-Benz. When the tread on your tires wears down, it is important to change them. Driving with worn-out tires is dangerous because your tires cannot get the proper traction necessary to drive and brake, especially in bad weather. Buy a set of new tires and use the tools that came with your car to install them.
Instructions
-
-
1
Drive your car to a level surface and set the parking brake. Turn off the engine.
-
2
Open the trunk. Lift up the trunk floor. Remove the vehicle tool kit.
-
-
3
Loosen the lug nuts with the wheel wrench in the vehicle tool kit. However, do not remove the nuts yet.
-
4
Position the jack under the car. If changing the front tires, place the jack directly under the take-up brackets behind the front wheel wells. For rear tires, the take-up brackets are in front of the rear wheel well. The jack head should fit directly into the take-up brackets. Check your owner's manual for a diagram.
-
5
Raise the car with the jack by turning the handle.
-
6
Unscrew the lug nuts and take them off the wheel.
-
7
Pull off the old tire.
-
8
Install the spare tire. Line up the holes in the wheel with the lugs on the hub.
-
9
Screw on the lug nuts by hand.
-
10
Lower the car to the ground by screwing the jack handle in the opposite direction of the way you turned it to raise the C240.
-
11
Tighten the lug nuts with the wheel wrench.
-
12
Repeat steps 5 through 13 to change any other tires that need changing.
