1
Scrub off the rust. The surface layer of rust is easily removed with a wire brush, fine steel wool or a scrubbing pad. Use force when using these products on the rust stain. If rust comes off slowly, add a little mineral oil to the rust. Apply the mineral oil with a paper towel or cotton ball. Wait 15 minutes to allow the rust to absorb the oil. Then wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

Use white vinegar in a spray bottle to distribute the liquid onto the truck. Completely saturate the rust stains. Wait 30 minutes. Then use a scrubbing pad or wire brush to remove the rust. Repeat if necessary.

Use rust removers, sold in hardware and home improvement stores. These formulas are very good at getting rid of rust stains that don’t respond to other methods. Rust removers are made with strong acids, such as phosphoric, hydrochloric and oxalic, all of which dissolve rust. Put on work gloves and a face mask. Pour a little rust remover onto a scrubbing pad then apply to the rust stains. Wait five to15 minutes then wipe off using a damp cloth. Carefully follow the directions as these substances are very toxic. Use these types of products in a well-ventilated area.
