How to Change an Air Filter on a 2003 Dodge Neon SE
Changing your own air filter can be an easy way to keep up with the maintenance on your car. Air filters help increase the performance and life of your car by cleaning the dirt and rust particles that flow through your air system into your engine. Dodge recommends that you change your air filter every 3,000 miles, though you may want to change it more often if you drive in harsh conditions.

1
Purchase a new air filter for your Dodge Neon from a local auto parts store. Look for a K&N air filter with the part number K33RU5141.

2
Find the air filter housing unit on your Neon. Open the hood of your car. Locate your engine and trace your air intake hose to a black rectangular box. It will be located on the driver's side of the engine compartment directly in front of the battery. This is your air filter housing unit.

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the housing unit closed. Remove the lid of the housing unit and set it aside for now. You should now see the air filter.
-
4
Take the old air filter out of the housing unit. Use compressed air or a wet cloth to clean the inside of the housing unit.
-
5
Place the new air filter into the housing unit neatly. Secure the lid back into place using a screwdriver and screws. Make sure the lid of the air filter housing unit is aligned with the lower housing unit. Failure to properly attach the lid of the housing unit can cause damage to the engine of your Neon.
