How to Charge the Battery on a Notebook Laptop
All notebook laptops come with both a battery and a power cord. Your notebook will function without the battery as long as it's plugged in to a power source. However, if an electrical outlet isn't available, your laptop will still operate by using the battery. Batteries run down after several hours of use, and they need to be recharged. When the battery is low, the battery icon on your task bar will appear empty or turn red, depending on the make and model of your notebook. When this happens, it's time to charge the battery to prevent your notebook from shutting down.

Once the battery icon indicates that the battery is charged, remove the power cord. You can use your laptop while the battery is charging, and it will continue to charge even if you turn the laptop off.
