How to Remove Studs From a Snowmobile Track
When the studs that are attached to your snowmobile track begin to wear down or have broken, they will need to be replaced. The track on the snowmobile is what propels the machine forward in the snow, which is assisted by the studs. Removing the studs from a snowmobile track can be done by first raising the back end of the snowmobile off the ground. This will allow you to easily access the studs so you can remove them.
Things You'll Need
- Snowmobile hoist
- Socket wrench
- 7/16-inch- or 5/16-inch deep sockets
- Flat-head screwdriver

1
Lift the back end of the snowmobile off the ground by using a snowmobile hoist or lift. Connect the hook on the end of the hoist cable to the back end of the snowmobile. Crank the hoist to raise the snowmobile.

2
Check to see what size socket you will need to remove the studs. Place a 7/16-inch and 5/16-inch deep socket over the stud to see which size fits over the support nut.

3
Connect the proper size socket to the socket wrench and then place the socket wrench over the first stud that you want to remove.
-
4
Turn the socket wrench counterclockwise to loosen the nut. Continue turning the nut by hand until it comes off of the stud.
-
5
Pull the support plate off of the track. You may need to use a flat-head screwdriver to force the plate off of the track.
-
6
Push the stud forward and then pull it out from the inside of the track.

Repeat this process for the remaining studs that are in the track.
