How to Keep a Beard Soft

How to Keep a Beard Soft thumbnail
Santa Claus is probably the most famous bearded figure in American culture.

A beard is a striking style of facial hair that can accent your bone structures and eyes. Celebrities such as Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood often wear beards. Aside from providing a dramatic look to your face, a beard can also mask certain imperfections, such as ruddiness or a double chin. Keeping your beard well-groomed is essential. Part of grooming is making sure your beard is soft, free of dirt and hair products that can dry it out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dab a quarter-sized amount of beard shampoo in your hands. Rub it between your fingertips and apply it to your beard. Rub the shampoo vigorously throughout your beard, loosening any built-up dirt and grime.

    • 2

Rinse the shampoo out of your beard with warm water. Angle your head under the shower and make sure the shampoo has been thoroughly rinsed away; leftover shampoo could dry out your beard and irritate your skin.

    • 3

Squeeze your beard gently to wring out the surplus water.

    • 4

Apply a quarter-sized amount of beard conditioner to your hands and rub it between your fingertips. Apply the conditioner to your beard, making sure it covers the hair evenly. Let the conditioner soak into your beard for two to three minutes.

    • 5

Rinse the conditioner off your beard with warm water. Angle your head undern the water as you did in step two to make sure all the conditioner is gone.

    • 6

Comb the beard away from your face, removing any residual shampoo and conditioner. Any remaining product could dry out your beard. Be careful not to touch the skin beneath your beard with the comb.

    • 7

Pat your beard dry with a soft towel. Let it air-dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use products designed specifically for beards. For example, if you wash your beard with a facial cleanser or regular shampoo, it could easily dry out your beard.
