How to Install Internet Explorer on Linux

Internet Explorer is Microsoft's proprietary Web browser and the default Web browser for the Windows operating system. It is not designed to be installed on the Linux operating system. It is possible to install Internet Explorer on Linux using the Wine software and the IEs4Linux program. Wine is a set of libraries that allows you to run Windows software on Linux. IEs4Linux is used to download and install the Internet Explorer browser.

      Download and install the latest Wine package through your system's software repository or directly from the Wine website (see "Resources" section for link).

      Open a terminal window. The terminal window will be found under the "System Tools," "Accessories" or "Utilities" section of the main menu.

      Type the command "wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz" to download the "ies4linux" packages.

      Type the command "tar -zxvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz" to extract the files from the .tar file.

      Type the command "cd ies4linux-*" to navigate into the newly created ies4linux directory.

      Type the command "./ies4linux" to install Internet Explorer.

      Follow the instructions in the installation wizard that appears.

      Click the "Finish" button when the installation is complete.

      Type the command "~/bin/ie6" to start Internet Explorer.
