How to Recover a Deleted Recycle Bin on Windows Vista

The Recycle Bin is location where deleted files are stored before you remove them permanently from your computer. By default, the Recycle Bin's icon is always on the desktop, however, if you were deleting desktop icons and accidentally deleted the Recycle Bin icon as well, do not panic because all is not lost. You can restore the icon to your Windows Vista desktop in a matter of seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click your desktop and click "Personalize" to launch the "Personalize appearance and sounds" dialog box.

    • 2

Click the "Change desktop icons" option located in the left pane. A new dialog box launches. You should see the desktop icons listed under "Desktop."

    • 3

Place a check on the "Recycle Bin" check-box, and select the Recycle bin icon that you want to use. You can select from either the empty or full recycle bin icon. If you want to change the recycle bin icon, click "Change icon," and select the icon you want to use. Click "Apply" to save the changes. You should now see the recycle bin on the desktop.
