How to Delete Your Safari History on a Mac thumbnail
Protect your privacy by clearing your Safari browser history regularly.

The history in your web browser makes life easier when you can't quite remember the name of a website you visited recently. However, it can also reveal information about you that you would prefer to keep private. Safari, the web browser included with the Mac OS X operating system, allows you to clear your history information at any point with a simple menu command. Clearing your Safari history eliminates web addresses you visited previously and clears out old information from search bars.

Instructions

    • 1

      Go to Safari's "History" menu.

    • 2

      Select "Clear History."

    • 3

Click the "Clear" button in the on screen prompt to confirm that you want to clear the history.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are working on a public computer, go to the "Safari" menu and select "Private Browsing." When Private Browsing is active, Safari does not save the information you enter in the browser to the history.

  • Set Safari to automatically clear the history daily, weekly, monthly or yearly by going to the "Safari" menu and opening "Preferences."
