How to Change a Default Browser From Internet Explorer on Windows XP

You can use an alternate web browser instead of Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer is the default browser installed on the Windows XP operating system. With the existence of many third-party web browsers, you have many other choices to accommodate your individual needs. You can change their default browser by using the Program Access and Default console in Windows XP if you prefer not to use Internet Explorer.

• Alternate web browser (installed)

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and click the "Set Program Access and Defaults" link from the list on the right.

2. Click the double arrows to the right of the entry titled "Custom."

3. Click the radio button of the browser you wish to set as your default browser. This list will show only the browsers that are currently installed on your computer. If the browser you wish to use is not listed, you will need to download and install it first.

4. Click "OK" to confirm your selection and exit the menu.
