How to Convert Poser Obj to XAML

How to Convert Poser Obj to XAML thumbnail
A 3D object in a scene.

XAML is the new format for adding animated 3D content for web applications. The Microsoft applications Expression Blend or Silverlight are the primary means for using this format. Poser is one of the premier consumer-level applications for creating 3D graphics and animation. Being able to use the huge amount of 3D content that is available for Poser in the XAML based applications greatly expands the ability to create new projects, as well as simplifying and speeding up the process. However, bringing the two together requires a conversion program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Poser. Delete the default figure loaded in the scene. Click on the "Library" tab on the right and choose the "Figure" library. Select the figure you want to use and click on the "Single" checkmark at the bottom to add it to the scene. Then add any other figures, clothing or props you want from the libraries.

    • 2

Select a piece of clothing. Then select "Object" and select "Conform to Figure." Repeat this for all the objects.

    • 3

Use the "Parameter" dials to pose the figure that way you want it in the scene. Then select "File" and click "Save." Name your file and save it. This gives you a backup in case the export process goes wrong.

    • 4

Select "File," then "Export" and choose the OBJ format for your file type. In the dialog that pops up choose the parts of the scene that you want to export and click "OK." Then name your file and save it.

    • 5

Open your converter. Open the OBJ file. It should come in with all the textures intact. If it does not you may have to browse to the "textures" folder the Poser "Runtime" folder to apply them.

    • 6

Select "File" and click "Export." Choose the XAML format for your file type, name the file and click "OK."
