How to Remove the Steering Wheel From an Old Mack Truck
Steering wheels wear out over time just like everything else does on a truck. The steering wheel removal process on a Mack truck is very simple and can be done with just a few tools in about 30 minutes. Before you start the removal process of the steering wheel on the Mack truck, make sure that the replacement steering wheel matches the old one.

- Flat head screwdriver
- Ratchet
- Socket set
- Steering wheel puller
- Long bolts (2)

Turn the front wheels so that they are straight.

Remove the center cap and horn assembly of the steering wheel with a flat head screwdriver.

Remove the locking pin if applicable. Some of the older Macks have the round locking pins that keep the nut from backing off. You should be able to remove the locking pin with a flat head screwdriver.

Remove the center nut from the middle of the steering wheel with a ratchet and the appropriate size socket. Turn the nut counterclockwise to remove.

Run the bolts through the steering wheel puller and screw the bolts into the pre-threaded holes located to the left and right of the spindle that the center nut came off of in the base of the steering wheel. Make sure that the two puller bolts are tight in the threaded holes so that they won't strip out when you start pulling on the steering wheel.

Turn the main center bolt of the steering wheel puller until it matches up with the center of the spindle.

Turn the main center bolt of the steering wheel puller until the steering wheel is completely free of the steering wheel spindle. Remove the puller and pull the steering wheel the rest of the way off of the spindle.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to tighten both of the puller bolts down tightly into the pre-threaded holes to prevent stripping.
Make sure that the wheels are straight before beginning the removal process; otherwise, the steering wheel will be off-center when you install it.
