How to Save Java Applets from Web Pages

How to Save Java Applets from Web Pages thumbnail
Find the location and file name of an applet to save it to your computer.

Applets are programs that can be embedded in an HTML web page. Created and compiled using the Java programming language, applets run in web browsers using the Java Virtual Machine. They are most commonly used to deliver interactive features and functionality that web pages alone cannot, such as games, file transfer interfaces and complex visualization tools. After you find the location of the Java applet on a web page, saving it to your computer is a quick process.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the page containing the Java applet in your web browser.

    • 2

Right-click in a blank space in your browser window and select "View Source" to see the HTML code that controls the content, look and feel of the web page.

    • 3

Search for the location of the Java applet. Click "Edit" in the menu near the top of the screen containing the HTML source code, and then click "Find." Enter ".class" (without quotation marks) to view the line of code that references the Java applet.

    • 4

Highlight all characters located between the quotation marks surrounding the .class reference. This represents the location and name of the Java applet file.

    • 5

Copy the Java applet location and file name. Click "Edit" in the top menu and select "Copy."

    • 6

Close the window containing the HTML source code and return to your browser window.

    • 7

Click once on the address bar in your browser. If any characters appear after the last "/" character in the current address, remove them. After doing so, right-click at the end of the address and select "Paste" to add the location and file name of the Java applet you copied in Step 5. Press the "Enter" key. The browser will prompt you to save the applet to your computer.
