According to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the General Educational Development (GED) measures the outcome of a high school education. In order to receive a GED, a person must pass tests in math, writing, reading, social studies and science. The GED is equivalent to a high school diploma, and you can use it when applying for a job or college. In Texas, you can request a copy of your GED directly from the Texas Education Agency.
