How to Get a Job on a Military Base
Across the United States, thousands of people work on more than 400 military bases. These people are not just enlisted individuals; every base employs civilians to work in varying capacities. In each state, civilians hold jobs at military installations for the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy.

Create a resume that includes references if you don’t have one. The resume should list work and education experience along with any notable awards or accomplishments. Ideally, references should be nonrelatives who can attest to your skills and experience.

Start your search online. The U.S. Department of Defense runs a website, Careers in National Defense, that allows job-seekers to find jobs on military bases. Each branch of the military also operates helpful job websites. There are links to these sites in the Resources section.

Inquire about open positions in person. Go to the military base nearest your home and ask about your options.

Put together a cover letter after you have found a job to apply for. Address the letter to the human resources department at the base. Your comments should speak directly about the position you are applying for.
