How to Fog a Johnson Outboard
Fogging a Johnson outboard needs to be done each year when the motor is being winterized and the end of the season and is no longer being used. Fogging will coat the inside of the carburetor and the cylinders in the motor with an anti-corrosive oil. You can fog your Johnson outboard by first taking the boat out of the water at the end of the boating season.
Instructions

1
Attach outboard engine muffs to the water intakes on the outboard.
-
2
Connect a garden house to the engine muffs and turn on the water to the hose.
-
-
3
Add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and then start the motor. Let the motor run for about five to 10 minutes. This will allow enough time for the fuel stabilizer to go through the motor.
-
4
Open the motor cover for the engine compartment, while the engine is still running, by releasing the latches that are used to secure the cover.
-
5
Spray the air intakes on the carburetor or the electronic fuel injection (EFI) system with fogging oil. Once you start spraying the fogging oil, smoke will start to come out of the engine.
-
6
Turn off the motor when the smoke begins to dissipate.
-
7
Remove the spark plugs using a socket wrench and spray the fogging oil into each cylinder. Spray the fogging oil for three to four seconds.
-
8
Replace the spark plugs and tighten them with the socket wrench.

Tips & Warnings
Increase the throttle on the motor if it starts to sputter to the point of stalling.
Consult the manual that came with the motor for specific instructions.
Adding fogging oil to the air intakes will cause the motor to produce a lot of smoke.
