Instructions

    • 1

Remove stains from velvet car seats with dry cleaning solvent. Treat the stains prior to cleaning the entire seat. Apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent to a clean rag. Blot the stain with the solvent until it has lifted. Allow the area to air-dry completely.

    • 2

Vacuum off the velvet upholstery with a vacuum hose attachment. Cut a piece of pantyhose and secure it over the end of the hose with a rubber band for vacuuming the velvet. This will protect the upholstery from damage during vacuuming.

    • 3

Squeeze a couple of squirts of mild dish soap into a bucket. Fill the bucket with warm water. Swish around the water with your hands until heavy suds form.

    • 4

Use a sponge to scoop up only the suds from the bucket. It is important not to saturate the velvet upholstery with water.

    • 5

Apply the suds to the surface of the upholstery with the sponge. Wipe down the velvet car seats with the suds and sponge, working in the direction of the velvet's nap and using light strokes.

    • 6

Swish around the water in the bucket, and apply more dish soap, as needed, to form more suds.

    • 7

Blot the car seats with a clean, dry rag to remove any moisture left from the suds. Apply some force when blotting to remove any moisture that may have soaked into the fibers of the fabric. Switch to a dry rag as one becomes dampened. Avoid rubbing the fabric with the rag, as this may disturb the nap of the velvet.

    • 8

Allow the car seats to air-dry. Brush the velvet fabric with a soft brush, such as a baby's hairbrush, to restore the nap.

Tips & Warnings

  • Restore the luster of your velvet car seats by steam cleaning them. Move in the direction of the nap while steam cleaning.
