How to Configure a Direct TV Internet Connection
If you have three lines in to your Direct TV system, one of them can be used for the Innternet. Once you have this Internet connection, you can access a website to program your DVR. This means that you can choose programs to record or change your notification settings online. Configuring a Direct TV Internet connection must be done through the Direct TV office, so you will need to have help with this process.

Call Direct TV and tell them you would like to have an Internet connection. They will need to change your service to allow this third line in. They might also need to install a different box if you don't have a box with an Internet connection. You will need to have another line coming in for your internet connectivity. This can be done through the cable line, but often will require splicing of the line, depending on the type of company you are working with.

Plug the Direct TV box into your router using a CAT 5 cable. This type of cable is standard with lots of different types of connections, and it is also the most common type of internet cable.

Call Direct TV back when the Internet is connected. They will need to go into their computer system and manually set-up the Internet connection on their end. You will need to stay on the line as they do this, because there are many question they'll need you to answer, and they might also need you to manually turn on your cable or your internet receiver box while they are on the phone.

Follow any directions that the Direct TV staff gives to you.

Ask how you can access your Direct TV online. Usually, they will give you an internet and password that you can use to log in to the direct TV site.
