How to Crochet Bottle Covers
Baby bottle manufacturers have used plastic in the past, but lately the trend is to use glass again. Glass is safer than plastic because you can heat it or cool it without worrying about toxins. However, glass baby bottles can be harder to care for because there is a danger that they might break in a diaper bag. To solve this problem, crochet a few bottle covers and use them to insulate and protect your glass or plastic baby bottles.

Begin at the base by crocheting a circle. Make two chain stitches, and then make six half double crochet stitches into the second chain, joining with a slip stitch to form a circle. Increase the next round by making one chain and putting two half double crochet stitches into every stitch around; increase the following round by making one half double crochet stitch in the first stitch and then two in the next and then repeating this pattern around. Now you should have a total of 18 stitches in your circle.

Work the body of the bottle cover in the round. For the next round, make one half double crochet stitch in the front loops only of every stitch around. This will help to set up a division between the base of the cover and its sides. Crochet every subsequent round by making one half double crochet stitch in both loops of every stitch around, starting each round with one chain stitch and finishing each round by joining with a slip stitch.

Continue to work the sides until the bottle cover reaches the desired height. It should reach just to the neck of the bottle or slightly higher. Periodically check this by putting the bottle into the cover to estimate the number of rounds you have left to make.

For the last round, join with a slip stitch, and then cut your working yarn and finish off. Weave in the loose ends using a large-eye blunt needle.

5
Make a drawstring for the top of the bottle. Take an extra length of yarn and make 85 chain stitches. Finish off, and knot both ends, then weave them in and out of the second round from the top of the bottle cover. Put the bottle inside the cover, and tie the strings to hold the bottle in place.
