Blu-ray is a standard of digital video that is high definition. Essentially Blu-ray discs are high definition DVDs. Blu-ray discs are not only better looking because of the high definition, but they hold more information. Blu-ray discs however, can only be played on Blu-ray players. You can replace your CD or DVD drive in some HP laptops with a Blu-ray player. As Blu-ray becomes more common, more laptops will come with a Blu-ray player and Blu-ray upgrades will be more available.

      Contact HP to find out if your HP laptop has a drive bay that will fit a Blu-ray player. You will have to provide HP with the model number of your laptop.

      Contact HP's spare parts division online or by telephone and purchase a Blu-ray player. You will have to provide your model number.

      Open the laptop where the current optical drive is located. The drive may come out after pushing a button on the back of the laptop or it may have to be unscrewed from the back of the computer.

      Insert the Blu-ray player where the old optical drive was and screw it in place or, if there are no screws, push it until it connects. Restart the computer and install any software that came with the Blu-ray.
