How to Change a 2007 Honda Civic Engine Oil Filter
Every three months or 3,000 miles, you should change the oil and oil filter of your 2007 Honda Civic. If you do this yourself, you’ll need a special wrench, available at the dealership. Don’t just change the filter. You’ll want to change the engine oil as well, since leaving the same dirty oil in the engine defeats the purpose of putting in a new filter.

Purchase a special wrench for removing the oil filter from a local Honda dealership.

Run the engine until the temperature gauge on the dash rises to normal operating temperature. Then turn the engine off.

Lift the hood. Remove the oil refill cap so air can flow in when you drain the oil from the bottom. It should be clearly marked.

Crawl under the car and place a pan under the drain bolt to catch the oil. The drain bolt will be at the bottom of the left or right side of the engine itself. Once the pan is in place, remove the drain bolt and washer. Oil will pour out, so be ready with the pan in place.

Find the oil filter on the underside of the engine. It’s a cylindrical canister. Place the filter under it. Remove the oil filter with the special wrench you purchased in Step 1. More oil will spill out, so have the pan in place.

Remove the gasket (a rubber O-ring) from the engine where the oil filter joins to the engine. The new filter will have its own gasket. These need to be replaced so the oil doesn’t leak.

Wipe clean the surface that the gasket rested against.

Dip your finger in the waste oil and coat the new gasket with it. Fill the filter with oil and screw it onto the engine.

Screw back in the washer and drain bolt. If you’re using a torque wrench, tighten the bolt to 29 ft. lbs. or 39 Nm.

Refill the engine with oil to get the proper reading on the dipstick.

Replace the oil fill cap.

Run the engine for five minutes. Then shut off the engine and check the oil filter and drain bolt for leaks.
