How to Remove Tooltips in Windows XP

Tooltips are little bubbles that pop up when you pass your mouse over a particular item. These tool tips are meant to be a learning aid, but they can also prove to be irritating. Removing the tooltips feature from XP requires you to go into the registry and alter a register key. Although the process is not difficult, it is imperative that the process is followed exactly.

      Click the "Start" button located on the taskbar.

      Type "regedit" in the Run dialog box. This opens the Registry Editor.

      Follow the following path in the Registry Editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

      Locate the key "ShowInfoTip" in the right-hand pane.

      Right-click "ShowInfoTip" and select the "Modify" option.

      Change the value from 1 to 0 in the Value data dialog box.

      Click the "OK" button. Close the Registry Editor window.

      Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
