Veterans Day is a legal U.S. holiday observed each year on November 11. It honors all veterans, living and dead, who fought in wars since World War I.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the Veterans Day home page of the Department of Veterans Affairs (va.gov) to find out if you live near an official Veterans Day Regional Site.

  2. Step 2

Call your local school principal to volunteer your time for Veterans Day activities. Since school is not in session on the holiday, a celebration will most likely be held a few days earlier.

  3. Step 3

Call someone you know who served in the armed forces, just to say thanks.

  4. Step 4

Attend a Veterans Day parade in your community to show your support.

  5. Step 5

Hang an American flag outside your home.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you live in or around Washington, D.C., visit one of the many memorials to U.S. soldiers who lost their lives in battle.

on 11/22/2005 My students will hear a story about
WWII &/or Veteran's Day, and then
write a personal letter to a WWII
Veteran. (I'll mail them.)
