1
Examine the back of the watch case. A genuine Rolex will have a solid case back, not a see-through case back. If purchased brand new, a genuine Rolex will have a hologram sticker on the case back with the word "Rolex" repeated all over the sticker. The watch's reference number will also be written on the hologram sticker. Some counterfeit Rolex watches will not have a true hologram sticker on the case back.

2
Examine the magnification glass above the date on the face of the watch. Most Rolex watches have a date at the 3 o'clock position with the exception of the Rolex Daytona. The magnification glass, also called the "cyclops," on a genuine Rolex will have 2.5 times magnification whereas many counterfeit Rolex watches have 1.5 magnification.

3
Unscrew the crown if you have a Submariner, Sea-Dweller, or Daytona Rolex watch. These three models have the Triplock seal, which is a black rubber gasket at the base of the crown that makes the watch water resistant up to 100 meters. Many counterfeit Rolex watches will not have this seal.
-
4
Feel the edge of the links, which are screwed together to form the bracelet or watch band. The edges of genuine Rolex links will feel smooth, whereas fake Rolex links will feel somewhat sharp and unrefined on the edges.
-
5
Rolex watches have an automatic movement, which means the watch self-winds when worn or placed in a watch winder. The second hand will glide around the watch unlike the second hand on a quartz or battery powered watch. An expensive Rolex replica can have an automatic movement, but inexpensive replicas will not.

6
Take your Rolex to a jewelry store with a licensed Rolex watch worker. By removing the case back, a watch maker can identify whether the watch has a genuine Rolex movement or not.
