How to Make Jewelry Cards from Business Cards

Handmade jewelry is incomplete without a card describing its materials and price.

A handcrafted piece of jewelry is incomplete without an attached tag or card. Jewelry cards can bear such important information as the name, phone number or website of the jewelry designer, the materials used to fashion the piece of jewelry, and the price of the piece of jewelry. Jewelry cards typically feature this pertinent information on one side, and an attractive illustration, stamp, or logo on the other side. They are most durable when made using fairly heavy paper, such as cardstock. While you can cut individual jewelry cards out by hand, you can also make them with business cards.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose printer-friendly business card sheets in the color you desire. Keep in mind that lighter colors, such as cream or white, will be easiest to print or write on, as well as embellish with a rubber stamp or other design.

    • 2

Remove the individual business cards from the sheets by gently popping or pulling them out. Note that there are usually around 12 cards per sheet, and the cards' edges are perforated, making them easy to remove.

    • 3

Punch a single hole in each card using a hole punch. Position each hole about ¼ inch away from the card's edge.

    • 4

Embellish one side of each card with an appealing design. Use a rubber stamp for a quick, easy, attractive embellishment. Choose a stamp the bears a design you like, such as a flower, a necklace, or the first initial of your name if you are the jewelry designer, or the first initial of the name of your jewelry business.

    • 5

Write on the blank side of each card with pens in the colors of your choosing. Include such information as the jewelry designer's name or business name, contact information or website, materials with which the jewelry is made, and price. Note that this content may vary slightly from one card to another as the costs and materials of the pieces of jewelry vary.

    • 6

Snip a two- to three-inch piece of ribbon or thread with scissors. Insert the ribbon or thread through the hole in a jewelry card, and use it to tie the card to the piece of jewelry. Do this with as many cards as there are pieces of jewelry, making sure to attach the right card to each piece.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make jewelry cards for dangly earrings, poke two holes into each card using a straight pin. Insert the hook of each earring into one of the holes.

  • Try folding each card in half for a different look. Decorate the outside of the folded card and include pertinent information on the inside.

  • Use a computer to print designs and words onto the business cards if you prefer. To do so, leave the business card sheets intact and place them in your computer's printer. Then follow the instructions that come with the business card sheets to imprint them with words or designs using your computer's word processing or graphic design software.
