There are as many ways as there are reasons to cover your tracks on the internet. You'll want to cover your tracks especially if the data found might be incriminating or difficult to explain. There is a manual way to clear your personal history, and also software that can make the process easier.

Instructions

      In Mozilla Firefox, go to the "Tools" section on the toolbar at the top. Under "Tools," click "Clear Recent History." This will delete all your browsing history. In the future, if you wish to have this done automatically, you can open a private browser. Go to "Tools," and click on "Start Private Browsing." A private browser allows you to search the internet and have all your data erased after you close the window.

      In Internet Explorer, bring up the Safety menu under the tool bar at the top of the browser. Hit the "Delete Browsing History" option and all the data that was collected and saved is deleted.

      In Google Chrome, click on the the Tools icon, which is a little blue wrench. Click the "Tools" menu. Select options and go to under the hood tab. Now click "Clear browsing Data" and select the "Clear Browsing History" option. Select the period in which you wish to delete the data up until and then click "Clear Browsing Data."
