How to Decorate with a Patchwork Quilt Theme for Mother's Day
During the pioneer days, many women had to leave their friends and family forever in order to follow their husband towards a better life. According to the article "Pioneer Quilts: A Comfort Through Hardship" on the Women Folk website "To ease this separation friendship quilts were sometimes made for the woman leaving for westward lands. A friendship quilt served as a remembrance of dear ones left behind." Even before this time, and up to this very day, quilts are made for special occasions, such as weddings and births, making a patchwork quilt theme perfect when decorating for a Mother's Day celebration.

1
Decorate with your collection of beloved quilts Lay out any beloved quilts on sofas and chairs, or hang them up around the room with specialty hangers from any craft store. For a cheaper route, hang "comforter clips" on the wall (the kind that are used on beds to keep duvet covers straight) and hang your patchwork from them.
-
2
Coordinate the colors with your other celebration decorations Take your color cue for the rest of the decorations from the quilts. For example, if your favorite quilt is the pink one that your grandma made when you were born, purchase any party decorations, such as streamers or balloons, in that hue.

3
Use photos or pretty craft paper to create your own Mother's Day quilt decorations Create your own patchwork quilt theme decorations for your Mother's Day celebration. Print out copies of favorite photos of the women in your life, or buy pretty craft paper. Cut these as you would quilt pieces and glue them onto card stock for custom pictures.
-
4
Create a custom centerpiece with your patchwork pictures and favorite flowers Decorate around the room with these pictures. Either frame them to hang up on the wall, or prop them up for a centerpiece on the table in front of some coordinating flowers in a vase.
-
5
Continue the look around the table Continue the patchwork quilt theme for Mother's Day with the table settings. Learn how to fold napkins into a quilted look or a symbol out of one of your favorite pieces, such as a heart or fleur de lis. Or simply use color coordinated placemats and napkins and lay them on top of each other.
