How to Replace the Vanes in Vertical Blinds

Save

When it is time to replace the vanes in your vertical blinds, you may find it difficult to find exact replacements. It is a good idea to replace all the vanes in your blind to maintain an even look across your window. The vanes secure to the blinds in hook clips. Removing and installing a vane only takes a few minutes. You can purchase replacement vanes straight from the manufacturer or from a home improvement center.

Things You'll Need

  • Credit card
  • Replacement vanes
  • Open the vanes across the vertical blind using the adjusting wand. Turn the wand counterclockwise so that the edges of the vanes are facing you.

  • Grab a vane with one hand and lift the vane straight up toward the head rail. The head rail is the portion of the vertical blind system that contains the track and the vane clips.

  • Insert a credit card between the front of the vane clip and the vane. Gently lower the vane and remove the vane from the vane clip. Repeat this for all the vanes that you are replacing.

  • Locate the top of the replacement vane by the hole in the edge for the vane clip. Insert the vane into the vane clip and press the vane to the inside top of the clip. Gently lower the vane to allow the clip hook to secure the vane. Repeat for each vane you are replacing.
