There are nine different power plants in SimCity 2000

SimCity 2000 is a popular computer game that allows you to build and manage your very own city. When starting a new city, a power plant is one of the first structures you must build. Building a power plant will allow you to provide power and electricity to your city. There are nine different types of power plants to choose from, and each one varies in cost, output and environmental impact.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the power plant icon on the toolbar. It should look like a red lightning bolt. Place your mouse over the icon, and click the left mouse button. A menu of all the available power plants will pop up on the screen.

    • 2

Select the power plant you want. The menu will display the type of power plant and how much it costs. Depending on the amount of money you have and what year it is in the game, not all of the power plants will be available when you first start building your city. Remember that some power plants require a certain amount of space or environmental features (such as waterfalls for the hydroelectric plant) to be able to function properly.

    • 3

Find a flat, open area on which to build your power plant. Make sure that the spot you pick will allow you to easily run power lines to and from your city. Remember that if you want to build a hydroelectric power plant, you must place it on top of a waterfall or it will not generate any power.

Click the right mouse button to build the power plant on your chosen location. The cost of your power plant will not be deducted from your total funds until you click the button, so first make sure that you are happy with the type of plant you picked and the spot you chose to build it on.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place your power plant near the edge of your city, near an industrial zone. Most of the power plants in the game give off pollution, and if the power plant is too close to a residential or commercial area, residents may leave or businesspeople may abandon their places of business.

  • If you decide to build a nuclear power plant in your city, there is a chance that it may have a meltdown and explode at some point during the game. If this happens, your city can be threatened by both power outages and fires, which you will have to bring under control.
